Three Weeks in Charleston

I spent a delightful February in Charleston.
I rented a charming, fully renovated bungalow from a dear friend in a neighborhood swilling in renewal on the north side of downtown, steps from some of the most celebrated new restaurants and a 15-minute stroll to the historic center.
My intentions were many: to step away from the everyday, devote energy to exploring a city I have come to love, reconnect with good friends who live there, expand my network of brokers and other lifestyle-driven entrepreneurs and recharge my thinking and approach to my business back home.
I left the day-to-day activities to my highly capable team member, Lindsey, as I worked on and in my business, remotely.
It was an extraordinary three weeks. I had the opportunity to meet colleagues from our Lowcountry CHRISTIE’S International Real Estate affiliate, The Litchfield Company, made other meaningful connections and witnessed the city’s significant growth underway. From renovations of historic homes to new hotels, luxury condos and large-scale multi-use developments along the waterfront, upper peninsula and North Charleston, the city is bustling with activity.
I could dedicate pages to the delicious food I consumed and inspiring facades that beckoned me inside.
Even with my limited palette, or mental food allergies, as I refer to them, I relished a symphony of flavors, often engaging with enthusiastic “foodie” servers and bartenders. My favorite experiences, dining or exploring, were typically those I stumbled across.
Charleston is a lifestyle, a city luring people from across the country who are drawn to its rich heritage, architectural and intrinsic beauty, delicious cuisine and appealing, hospitalian way of life.
